On November 23, 2017 the eighteenth meeting of the Commission of the CIS Member States on the use of atomic energy for peaceful purposes was held in Dushanbe, Republic of Tajikistan, under the chairmanship of the Deputy Minister of Energy of the Republic of Belarus Mikhail Ivanovich Mikhaduk.

 

The event was attended by members of the Commission from the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tajikistan, experts from specialized agencies and organizations of the CIS member states.

 

While considering the implementation of the CIS interstate target program "Reclamation of territories exposed to uranium mining operations", it was noted that measures to create an engineering infrastructure at the recultivation facilities in the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as to complete the examination of the design specifications and estimates of facilities in Tajikistan in the competent authorities of that country had been initiated. The participants of the meeting approved the Program amendments regarding the inclusion of nuclear heritage facilities located on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as financing the activities of the second stage of the Program in the Republic of Tajikistan.

 

Significant progress in the activities of the network structures of the national centers of the Basic Organization for Training was noted. Technological interaction procedures used for specialists training were recommended for application in the Commonwealth countries on a systemic basis. The proposal of the Republic of Tajikistan on the establishment of a national center of the Basic Organization for Training on the basis of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan has been supported.

 

The Republic of Belarus announced the joining of the National Academy of Sciences to the international research program at the experimental complex on the basis of the Kazakhstan material research tokamak, the currently participants of which are organizations of Kazakhstan and Russia.

 

Within the implementation of the Plan of priority measures for the implementation of the nuclear and radiation safety concept of the CIS Member States, an initiative proposal to develop a draft agreement on the transiting of radioactive materials through the territories of the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States was approved.

 

Also, the Commission approved the document "Standard requirements for registers of ionizing radiation sources of CIS member states" and instructed to develop a unified procedure and forms for the exchange of information of the CIS member countries on the movement of radioactive sources.

 

Representatives of the Republic of Tajikistan acquainted members of the Commission with the project of the Argus-FTI (Dushanbe city) solution reactor restoration. It was proposed to work out the issue of developing an international research program on this reactor.

 

The next meeting of the Commission of the CIS member states on the use of atomic energy for peaceful purposes is expected to be held in the second half of 2018 in the Kyrgyz Republic.
