The Parliament of Kazakhstan is going to consider a draft law on the use of atomic energy in 2015. On Thursday October 160the deputies of the Majilis (lower chamber of Parliament) decided on the preparation for the consideration of the draft law "On the use of nuclear energy". This was reported by the chairman of the parliamentary committee on nature and ecology Alexander Milutin.

"This project is aimed at establishing a clear basic requirements and principles of safety during construction, placement, operation and decommissioning of radiation, nuclear and electrical installations. The Committee is willing to start working the bill and prepare an appropriate conclusion before June 10 next year" - he said.

In addition, the deputies voted for consideration of accompanying bill by the Parliament, entitled "On introducing a number of additions and amendments relating to issues of use of nuclear energy to Certain Legislative Acts of Kazakhstan".

It should be noted that to date the final decision on the location of future nuclear power plants in the country hasn’t been taken yet. This was stated by the Minister of Energy Vladimir Shkolnik, during his speech at the forum of interregional development in September this year in the city of Atyrau. "The situation with the platform is still not clear. We are considering a district of Kurchatov, then we are going to carry out the necessary research, and after that everything will be resolved "- then said in his speech, Vladimir Shkolnik.

It is worth recalling that in Atyrau an agreement on cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan in the field of construction a nuclear power plant in the republic was endorsed. The agreement was signed by the head of "Rosatom" Sergey Kiriyenko and Energy Minister Vladimir Shkolnik.

Earlier it had been reported that the construction of nuclear power plant was planned for 2018 and the most likely place for it would be Kurchatov. Aktau is also considered as a possible place for the construction of a nuclear power plant.
