The joint Roundtable discussion of the Nuclear Society of Kazakhstan and the National Nuclear Society (Russian Federation) brought together leading experts in the field of nuclear energy and nuclear technologies.

On April 24, 2025, the Park Inn by Radisson Hotel in Astana hosted a joint Roundtable discussion of the Nuclear Society of Kazakhstan Association and the National Nuclear Society (Russian Federation) entitled “Nuclear Energy and Technology: Step into the Future”, where the participants discussed topical issues of the development of nuclear energy, scientific and technical cooperation and the use of nuclear technologies.

 

The following organizations participated in the work of the joint Roundtable discussion:

  • from the Kazakh side: Nuclear Society of Kazakhstan Association, Department of Atomic Energy and Industry of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, RSE “National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan”, RSE “Institute of Nuclear Physics” of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, STC “Safety of Nuclear Technologies”, NAC Kazatomprom JSC, Association for the Development of the Nuclear Industry, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the Branch Professional Union of Nuclear Industry Workers, etc.
  • from the Russian side: National Nuclear Society (Russian Federation), NRC “Kurchatov Institute”, NIKIET, National Research Nuclear University MEPhI.

The opening of the Roundtable discussion was conducted by Irina Lashkarovna Tazhibayeva, Chairman of the Board of Nuclear Society of Kazakhstan Association, and Evgeny Borisovich Sidorov, Executive Director of the National Nuclear Society (Russian Federation).

During the Roundtable discussion, more than 25 experts from Russia and Kazakhstan made presentations highlighting key topics of the development of the nuclear industry in the two countries: innovations in nuclear energy, scientific and technical support for nuclear energy, prospects for creating a nuclear cluster in Kazakhstan, safety of the fourth generation of nuclear power plants, low-power nuclear power plants, nuclear technologies for medicine and industry and much more.

Of particular interest were the speeches of Evgeny Olegovich Adamov, Scientific Director of NIKIET JSC and scientific director of the Breakthrough project area on the safety and economics of the fourth generation of nuclear power plants, Alexander Evgenievich Blagov, Vice President of the Kurchatov Institute Research Center on the topic “Infrastructure development of Megascience facilities in the Russian Federation”, Gulmira Dautovna Mursalova, Deputy Director Department of Atomic Energy and Industry of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, who spoke about the prospects of creating a nuclear cluster in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Following the results of the Roundtable discussion, it was decided to maintain a regular dialogue between the National Nuclear Society (Russian Federation) and the Nuclear Society of Kazakhstan, as well as to involve new scientific organizations, industrial enterprises and young specialists in cooperation.

 

The Roundtable discussion became a landmark event for the nuclear community of the two countries, which has a high interest in joint projects and the creation of innovative solutions for the development of nuclear energy and the peaceful uses of the atom.
