NNC RK Director General, Erlan Batyrbekov took part in the 49th session of the Preparatory Commission of Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) held on November 13-15, 2017 in Vienna. The delegation was headed by the Permanent Representative of the RK to International Organizations in Vienna, Kairat Sarybay.
In his statement, Kazakhstan diplomat made detailed presentation on initiatives of Head of States in nuclear disarmament and nonproliferation promoted during the opening ceremony of the IAEA Low Enriched Uranium Bank in Astana on August 29, 2017 and outcomes of the anniversary conference “Pugwash Scientists ‘Movement”.
Mr. K. Sarybay recalled that Kazakhstan jointly with Japan had made considerable work to focus world attention to the need for prompt establishment of a nuclear test ban. The Permanent Representative of RK emphasized that under the co-chairmanship of two countries on entry into force of the Treaty at the conference, it is for the first time in the CTBT history when the leaders of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev and Japan, Sindzo Abe signed the joint document appealing state leaders which had not ratified CTBT to undertake necessary measures for ratification to ensure early entry into force.
It was also noted that Kazakhstan would continue to provide political and practical support to assist Preparatory Commission of CTBTO in fulfillment of its tasks, particularly in forming all elements specified by Nuclear Test Control Regime Treaty.
The activity of our country as a co-chair in the process of promoting entry into force of CTBT for the last two years became the continuation of implementing initiatives of the President of RK, N.
