A meeting was held between Askar Zhumagaliyev and Igor Nasalik. These energy leaders discussed potential areas of cooperation in the nuclear sector between their two countries. In particular, these discussions focused on the use of Kazakh technology in the development of uranium deposits in Ukraine.

Kazakhstan has offered its Ukrainian partners a mobile technology, related to uranium production and processing, that was developed by the High-Tech Institution of Kazakhstan. The main benefits of this technology are its compact size and flexibility of deployment. Using this innovative technology a mine developer can reduce the construction cost requirements of fixed plant and equipment with regards to smaller uranium deposits.

According to Askar Zhumagaliyev, «Kazatomprom is ready to offer a full range services starting from engineering and even a turnkey solution for the mobile technologies».

Top managers of both countries also discussed the supply of ion exchange resins to Kazakhstan. Besides, there is also interest in production of nuclear fuel assemblies in Kazakhstan for needs of Ukraine.

Chairman of the Board of JSC “NAC “Kazatomprom” and the Minister of energy and coal industry of Ukraine agreed to organize a joint working group to discuss this cooperation in more detail.
