On February 19-23, 2018, CAESC together with URS Federal Services, Inc. arranged and conducted, within Global Nuclear Security initiative, a training workshop on Physical Protection System Configuration Management in Almaty.

The training course was held at the Nuclear Security Training Center of the Institute of Nuclear Physics, Republican State Enterprise. The representatives of Kazakhstan nuclear facilities and the National Guard of the Republic of Kazakhstan attended the training.

 

The scope of the workshop program for the trainees covered the main principles of physical protection system configuration management, issues of the system design, documentation of the design solutions, system sustainability, modification control and assessment, analysis and control of actual system configuration as well as performance assessment. There was a number of practical activities relating to the subject matter of the workshop. The participants visited and reviewed modern examples and state-of-the-art equipment used to maintain security of the facilities.

The training course enabled participants to understand the need for, and practical application of, the principles of managing physical protection system configuration to ensure its long-lasting performance.
